DMB Academics is proud to be participating in "Take a Stand for Turning Point."  For 27 years, Turning Point of McHenry County has served victims of domestic violence in McHenry County, providing crisis intervention, counseling, legal and non-legal advocacy, emergency shelter, police trainings, a food pantry and bi-lingual and bi-cultural services to the women, children and men of the county.

     On August 22 & 23, radio station Star 105.5FM will be sponsoring their 3rd Annual Radio-A-Thon for Turning Point, taking 36 hours to urge McHenry County and its listeners to "Take a Stand for Turning Point."  Star 105.5 will be broadcasting from the Sam's Club parking lot in Crystal Lake, playing their usual mix of the "Best variety from the 80's, 90's and Beyond" and urging people to phone in a pledge or come down to Sam's Club where we?ll be on site with free giveaways.  Last year, this event raised over $80,000 and brought hundreds of donors together to "Take a Stand" despite inclement weather. This event was instrumental in opening the new Turning Point Shelter, where today, 21 women & children are living in safety while they rebuild their lives.

     Turning Point relies on donations, state aid, and volunteers to keep the shelter open.  For the past two years, my husband and I donated money to hear our favorite songs from the 80's. This type of donation is called, Pay to Play.  This year we are taking our support further by involving the company.

     DMB Academics will be participating in person on Saturday, August 23 from 9 am to 2 pm.  This time is designed for families with a variety of activities for them to participate in.  Current children activities are as follows: The Crystal Lake Fire Department will have The Smokehouse for children to learn about fire safety, games from the Characters of Characters, and face painting.  For adults, the current activities are as follows: have your car seat checked by the Crystal Lake Police Department, free coffee, spinal exams and massages.
     DMB Academics will be providing a variety of giveaways for the children.  We will have a special coupon for adults.  There are other free giveaway items that you have to see to receive.
